Important Information For Commercial Sites
Any site which sells items or services directly from its pages or which serves as a portal to other sites with goods or services is deemed to be a commercial site by the Managers of this webring. Since we do not accept sites outside the theme of our ring or sites which fail to meet our standards in terms of quality and/or quantity of content, portal-type sites will automatically be refused entry. Over the years we have encountered webmasters who have strange ideas about what actually constitutes a commercial site. Arguments like: "My site isn't commercial, I'm an author and it just sells my books", "I'm an artist, my pictures might cost $500 each, but it's just a personal website" or "We're a non-profit organisation - after we've all taken our wages and paid our expenses we don't make a bean" don't cut any ice with us. Please note that our above definition of a commercial website is not negotiable. If you sell more than the odd cup, lapel pin or club-type t-shirt from your pages, that will probably identify you as commercial in our eyes. We don't get paid for running this webring and don't see why we should help anybody else make to money by providing free advertising. Commercial sites which meet our criteria in terms of content and quality are admitted to the ring if they are willing to pay a modest monthly fee. In return for this gesture, they receive Featured Site Status (please refer to the relevant section for more information on this topic) and all the advantages which go with it. The small sums gained from Featured Sites are split between our Group & The WebRing System itself. The latter uses its share to help cover its running costs; we donate our portion to a special needs school for the purchase of educational toys and playground equipment. |
