The Jacko Republic was founded in 1862 by English and American colonists who followed a non-Christian religious faith. The settlers sought a place where they could sustain their pagan beliefs without persecution.

The government of the islands allied itself to Great Britain during The Great War (1914-18). Three hundred men from the Jacko, Hellcat and Boodle Island Militias served in the trenches on the Western Front - only 105 of them returned after the Armistice.

In 1923, following the ‘Glorious Revolution’, The National Freedom Party siezed power throughout the Archipelago. Although not immediately recognised by Britain or the USA, the NFP government surprised many international observers by enacting laws which protected religious, political and philosphical freedoms.

A series of radical economic reforms during the 1920's stabilised the Islands' economy, abolished unemployment and banished poverty. A system of welfare payments was put in place for the sick and elderly.

Perhaps the most disturbing  blot upon the government’s record is the presence of Bedlam Asylum For The Criminally Insane on Hellcat Island - the most secure mental hospital in the World. Persistent rumours suggest that the Asylum is used to incarcerate people who are annoying or lacking in integrity rather than genuinely insane. It has also been alleged that an even more severe facility - some kind of prison camp - is located deep in the forests of Boodle Island; however, no proof of its existence has been provided.
